Elijah E. "Buddy" Fogelson is an American lawyer, military colonel, businessman, horse and cattle rancher, and philanthropist. Although born in Lincoln, Nebraska, he spent most of his life in Texas, where he attended Catholic College of Texas in 1919 and 1920. He continued to earn money by mining oil. In 1941, Buddy Fogelson acquired the Forked Lightning Ranch along the Pecos River, about 40 miles southeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico, on which he raised Santa Gertrudis cattle. Over time, he acquired adjacent plots to increase the size of his farm to 13,000 acres.
